Life Lessons to Learn at Home
Comparing children who go to school outside the home to those children who are homeschooled, you find that there are more life lessons learned at home than are being taught in school. Although schools teach great academics and children learn these subjects well, they are sadly lacking in teaching them how to live life.
Many adults face difficulty dealing with daily life simply because they have not been taught in school how to cope; they have not been taught life lessons. Homeschooling parents are privileges to be able to teach life lessons to their children aside from their regular subjects.
Below are some tips to help you teach your children some important life lessons.
In home economics, we learn how to cook and about nutrition which is not really enough to prepare one for the real life outside of school. With homeschooler parents they don’t just teach their kids to cook and clean as part of their schooling, they incorporate all of these lessons learned in real daily life.
Don’t clean up after children but encourage them to clean as they go. Cleaning up as part of the lesson will soon be brought out of the school setting and bring it with them as a habit through life.
Teaching children how to budget is also important. A lot of people have never been taught how to budget and this is why when they grow up they get into financial trouble. Although schools teach about money in math, budgeting is not a part of it. The problems lie here.
Budgeting can be taught through certain activities. You can use play money and a play till, and acting out shopping experience. You can also go to a child friendly store like Anthill shop N play. Give them money to buy items and make them budget their own money. Give them an allowance good for a month and see how they fare in budgeting. They can use their money to pay for candies, toys, or activities, but it has to last them for a month.
Schools teach children to eat healthy and stay active but not to take care of oneself. We can see many adults not knowing how to take care of themselves because they were never taught as children to do so.
Teaching meditation is a good way for children to learn how to calm their minds and relax them. If a child learns deep breathing, he can help himself when he goes older if he knows how to reduce his feelings of stress and anxiety. It is important that children learn to express their feelings in many different ways like art and other means.
Being able to educate your children in these things as a homeschooling parents is a great privilege and opportunity. They will have better chances of a happier and more successful future.
